Ketamine low-dose IV infusion has become an important breakthrough in the treatment of depression and chronic pain syndromes. Studies currently in phase III trial show benefits also for Parkinson’s disease. The results are visible immediately and can last up to two weeks with a success rate reported in clinical studies of over 70-80%.

Ketamine is a safe anesthetic used over 50 years since 1970 in children and adults. It has the advantage of not inhibiting the respiratory drive or protective reflexes .In sub-anesthetic very low doses have beeneffective in treating neuropathic pain, CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), treatment-resistant depression, OCD, Bipolar, PTSD, anxiety, migraines, in clinical studies in Parkinson’s Disease, and some mood disorders.

What to expect

A medical professional will perform a consultation to determine if you qualify for a Ketamine IV drip. Vital signs are recorded, and a heart monitor will be attached. Some medical conditions can exclude the use of Ketamine drips.

The IV drip takes around 60 minutes, but monitoring for two hours is required after the drip, with Blood Pressure, Oxygen, and HR monitoring.

Some transient side effects can occur during infusions like dizziness, higher heart rate and blood pressure, and nausea. Some patients experience dissociations like “out of body” effect, and some find it a bit unusual. Distorted sensory perceptions and feelings of detachment from the environment and self.

It is not recommended to drive after Ketamine infusion.

Patients can quickly gain new abilities, become more productive, escape the loop of negative thinking, feel lighter and happier, and learn to love life again. For many patients, ketamine therapy becomes life-changing.

Is it FDA-approved
As 30% of all prescribed medication, Ketamine infusions for the above-mentioned benefits are considered “off label” although scientific research supports the above use and benefits.
How many treatments do I need
Depending on your response you will receive a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 infusions in a 2-week span. Boosters are recommended monthly to six months depending on results.
What will I experience
This is an outpatient, painless IV infusion, the whole process will take 3-4 hours. Your thinking may be a bit cloudy and your walk a bit unsteady for an hour or two after treatment. You may also find that you will be unusually tired for several hours.
Insurance does not cover Ketamine infusion unless used for anesthetic purposes.
Medicine that can interfere with Ketamine
Can be used concomitant with antidepressants and antipsychotics, but benzodiazepines such as Klonopin, Xanax, and Ativan, do interfere with ketamine. Lamictal (lamotrigine) in doses above 150mg/day also can block ketamine efficacy. We recommend holding them for 24 hours if cleared by your medical doctor.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart failure, will need physician clearance.
Other instructions
  • You will need an adult to accompany you home and you will not be allowed to drive for 24 hours.
  • Please don’t eat or drink after midnight the evening before treatment.
