Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat “spider veins.” A solution Asclera® is injected directly into a vein, causing the lining of the blood vessel to swell and stick together. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.
Sclerotherapy works well for most patients. It is estimated that between 50 and 80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each session.
In general, spider veins respond to treatment in 3 to 6 weeks, and few treatments might be required.
If the veins respond to the treatment, usually they will not reappear. However, new veins may appear over time. If needed, you may return for injections.
The sclerotherapy procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Surgical compressive stockings are required to be worn during daytime for up to 7 days. They must be purchase before the procedure or from our office.
There is a maximum of 5 Asclera® vials that can be used during one session, if that limit is reached another appointment needs to be scheduled.
